In this list, we're going to rank all the Pokémon types and their weaknesses. Let's take a look back at the most famous types (such as fire and water) and the most forgotten, such as the iron and fairy types. Check it all out below.
Bug
Insect-type Pokémon are considered by many to be the weakest of all Pokémon types. This is because their stats aren't as good as the others, but they do have some advantages against plant-, dark- and psychic-type Pokémon. However, they are weak challengers if they encounter fire-, flying- and stone-type Pokémon in their path.
Insect-type Pokémon are the ones that grow and evolve the fastest compared to all the other 18 types of Pokémon and some of the most popular examples of these little monsters are Venonat, Pinsir and Butterfree.
Ice
Ice-type Pokémon are recognized for having advantages over ground-, plant-, flying- and dragon-types, but their weaknesses against fire-, fighter-, steel- and stone-types place them in 17th position among all Pokémon types. You certainly know some Pokémon of this species, such as Glalie, Vulpix Forma de Alola and Glaceon.
At the start of the anime, the ice type had only 5 Pokémon, but today they have more than 57 creatures of this type! Unfortunately, they don't manage to stand out in the franchise, which makes it better to use other Pokémon instead.
Grass
Grass-type Pokémon appeared at the beginning of the animated series, being one of the main representatives of these little monsters alongside the fire and water types. At the start of the journey as a Pokémon Trainer, the character has to choose between these three types, but unfortunately the plant-type Pokémon don't get as much attention throughout the series and games. Some of the best known are: Chikorita, Bellossom and Bulbasaurus.
Their main advantages are against ground-, stone- and water-type Pokémon, as well as having great resistance against electric-type Pokémon. Their weaknesses are insect-, fire-, flying-, ice- and poison-type Pokémon. Even though they rank 16th among all Pokémon types, it's common to see trainers using them as support during battles.
Normal
Of all the types of Pokémon, the normal ones are known as the "dullest", mainly because of their generally simple looks. Among them, Snorlax is one of the best known, as well as Miltank. These are creatures that don't do much damage and are generally not used much in battle.
They are immune to ghost-type Pokémon and have few weaknesses, but the main one is fighter-type Pokémon, receiving double damage when facing this species.
Poison
These are the favorite Pokémon of the franchise's villains and are a recurring feature of their teams. Poison-type Pokémon can cause immediate or long-term damage to their opponents, always using the technique of poisoning their opponents.
Their main advantages are against fairy- and plant-types, but their weaknesses include ground-, psychic- and steel-types. In addition, their poisonous abilities are nullified by any steel-type Pokémon, which puts them in this position in our list of all Pokémon types.
Rock
These are among the slowest of all the Pokémon types in the series, making it difficult to hit guaranteed attacks and abilities. They can learn to generate earthquakes, which is very useful in battles, and their powerful defense guarantees resistance against attacks from powerful opponents. Their advantages are against ice-, fire-, insect- and flying-type Pokémon, and they also have resistance against normal- and poison-type Pokémon.
Ghost
Of all the Pokémon types, ghosts are one of the rare ones that end up suffering damage from their own attacks. On the other hand, they have immunity to fighting-type and normal-type Pokémon, which guarantees victory if they face opponents of these species. Despite having famous creatures in the series, such as Gengar, Marowak Form of Alola and Gastly, they don't get much attention.
This type is not very effective against Dark-type Pokémon, but they have great resistance against Poison- and Insect-type Pokémon. They are good Pokémon, but not enough to be among the most sought-after.
Water
We've come to a striking type of Pokémon, after all, who doesn't remember the beloved Squirtle? Water-type Pokémon are very important, as they are among the main choices for those characters who want to start their journey as a Pokémon trainer.
The highlight of this type is that they are able to learn a greater variety of moves, such as ice attacks, which are effective against Dragon-type Pokémon. When they come into contact with water or rainy terrain, their abilities can increase considerably. Their weaknesses, on the other hand, are highlighted when facing plant- and electric-type Pokémon, and they are not very suitable for fighting water-type Pokémon.
Psychic (psychic type)
Of all the types of Pokémon in the first generation, the psychic types were among the strongest in the series. As time went by, they lost their prominence, but they will always be remembered for creatures like Kadabra, Mr. Mime and the legendary Mewtwo. Their attacks are usually very powerful, but have the side effect of also hitting the user, leaving them confused.

Dark
Dark-type Pokémon appeared from the second generation of the anime, with Weavile and Grimmsnarl as the main names. Although they first appeared as just 6 creatures, nowadays Dark-type Pokémon number 74 little monsters!
They excel in confrontations against psychic-type and ghost-type Pokémon, having powerful attacks and causing many negative effects on their opponents, which can diminish their enemies' defensive and attacking capabilities. However, they are weak when facing fighter-, fairy- and insect-type Pokémon.
Flying
Of all the types of Pokémon, the flying type is recognized for being immune to the attacks of ground-type Pokémon, since they can fly and dodge blows such as an earthquake, which can be overwhelming. In addition to this advantage, flying-type Pokémon are also among the fastest and have powerful attacks, making them great for more offensive Pokémon Trainers.
On the other hand, they are not very effective against steel-, electric- and stone-type Pokémon, and their main weakness is when facing ice-, stone- and electric-type creatures. Another disadvantage is that their lifespan is very low, which can lead to defeat in just a few minutes of fighting. Some pure flying-type Pokémon are Tornadus Incarnate Forme, Rookidee and Corvisquire.
Ground
Ground-type Pokémon occupy this position on our list because they are resistant against other powerful Pokémon, such as the electric and steel types. Their physical strength and great defenses are also seen as fantastic abilities, making this type of Pokémon great both offensively and defensively. Some of the best-known ground-type Pokémon are Sandshrew, Cubone and Dugtrio.
Despite being immune to the electric type, they end up being less effective against grass- and insect-type Pokémon, as well as having a great weakness when facing ice-, water- and plant-type opponents.
Fighting
Of all the types of Pokémon, the fighter-type are among the strongest, and obviously because of their super-powerful physical attacks and stats, which are among the highest in the anime and games. In addition to their incomparable strength, their dodges are also great, and because of their enhanced speed, many of their attacks can cause great damage to their opponents.
However, its defense is low, which leads the creature and its trainer to focus on faster combat, so that the enemy is eliminated as soon as possible. All electric-type Pokémon fight quickly, with speed and powerful blows being their main skills, since an electric shock can even paralyze an opponent. As if all this weren't enough of an advantage, they are also great against flying and water-type opponents.
Fairy
The cutest of all the Pokémon types, the fairy types are also very powerful! This is the most recent type, which was only introduced in the sixth generation of the franchise. They appeared so that types like Dragons would have a weakness, since they were among the most difficult to defeat and were considered the most powerful for many years.
Fairy-type Pokémon are great as support, as they are able to generate various positive effects for Pokémon on their own team, such as increasing the damage of a sparring partner or even raising the defensive levels of their group. Among the most popular fairy-type Pokémon are Clefairy, Sylveon and Jigglypuff.
Dragon
What Pokémon fan hasn't wanted a Charizard or a Dragonite? Dragon-type Pokémon are the second most powerful of all Pokémon types, and there are plenty of Legendary beings in this category, such as Lugia.
They have powerful attacks, giving them credit for a good offensive, as well as strength for direct physical attacks and special powers. The only creatures that have no effect on dragons are Fairy-type Pokémon, but some Ice-type Pokémon can also cause you problems in combat.
Steel
And we've finally arrived at the most powerful of all Pokémon types: the steel type! Did you expect that? These creatures may seem very weak, but their enviable resistance makes them stand out when it comes to power. They are known as the only ones with resistance to 10 other types of Pokémon: fairy, insect, steel, dragon, stone, plant, flying, psychic, ice and normal.
Some of the most popular steel-type Pokémon are Steelix and Metagross. Their only weaknesses are the ground-, fire- and fighter-type Pokémon, yet it takes a powerful opponent and a suitable trainer to overcome these Pokémon's powerful defenses.
