Keiko is one of the main characters in Yu Yu Hakusho who is part of Yusuke's life before his passage into the Spirit World. She is the boy's childhood friend and love interest.

In terms of personality, she is the opposite of Yusuke, being sweet, patient and empathetic. She and Yusuke later start a relationship and become one of the most beloved couples among anime fans.

Despite being one of Yu Yu Hakusho's most relevant main characters in the Spirit World, Koenma doesn't have a very easy-going personality. He is the current ruler of the Spirit World and the son of the former owner of the post, King Enma.

He first appears as a child in the anime and then his adult form is revealed. Especially as a child, Koenma is bossy and willful, with very abusive attitudes towards his servants and sometimes even those who aren't even his servants.

Kazuma Kuwabara

The boy is quite cold and distant, and is often seen as evasive. He doesn't seem to have much empathy and likes to mock human emotions and lives. The way he looks at the world can be seen by many as a bit cynical too.

He is actually a kitsune, a youkai whose real form is that of a fox. However, when he was a youkai, he ended up being injured and killed, and was later reincarnated as a human child who possesses the power to manipulate plants. Many consider him to be one of the strongest characters in Yu Yu Hakusho.

Genkai

Genkai is Yusuke's teacher and also someone extremely important among the main characters in Yu Yu Hakusho. She has a rather harsh temperament and at first sees Yusuke as nothing more than a slacker, subjecting him to heavy training of all kinds.

She is the one who teaches the boy to master his spiritual powers and later realizes what kind of person he is and develops a great affection for him. Genkai sees Yusuke as the grandson she never had.

She is also incredibly strong, having dedicated her entire life to exhaustive training so that she could create and control the power of the spirit wave orb. This training and dedication are mainly responsible for her initially cold and hard demeanor.

Yusuke Urameshi is the protagonist of the entire series and possesses the most powerful power of all in the anime world: protagonism. He was a juvenile delinquent who ended up getting involved in an accident to save a little boy who was about to die.

As the way in which he had left this world had taken even the members of the Spirit World by surprise, he was given the chance to return and make amends for his crimes. So he ends up becoming a spiritual detective tasked with protecting the human world with his close friends. Together, they form "Team Urameshi", of which Yusuke is the leader.

Who is the strongest of the main characters in Yu Yu Hakusho?

The answer to this question will depend very much on the moment of the plot and where in the characters' development it takes place. Many might consider that, of Yusuke's group in the early stages, Kurama might be the one to hold this title. But as the plot progresses and Yusuke himself improves his knowledge, he ends up surpassing his companions and becoming quite powerful.
